My classroom is nearly clean, my students gone, and the lockers currently being scrubbed. Yesterday at my final “book club” a teacher surprisingly (to me anyway) expressed deep sadness at the start of summer; a feeling of emptiness. I imagine in a bit of time I will feel some longing for my students and the long days of teaching but right now I feel, quite frankly, exuberant! I am so terribly excited to get a second opportunity at Bike and Build. I am so terribly excited for post-Bike and Build life. I am so terribly excited for my future. Here’s to summer 14! Let’s get the party started!
Leanna
A bit shout out to Leanna aka “Ducky” for her wonderful donation. Additionally, she sent one of the most inspirational letters I’ve ever recieved and a wonderfully fun drawing of bicycles traveling along a happy road. Thanks, my friend!
Mom
Big shout out to my mom who is the latest donor of my Bike and Build account. 7% of the way there!
Love you!

“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

Total Mileage: 3855 |
||
**Subject to change |
A few ways to think of your donation:
- If you donated a ___________ for every mile (3855 in total*) that I bike it would equal:
- Penny: $38.55
- Nickel: $192.75
- Dime: $385.50
- Quarter: $963.75
- Fifty cents: $1927.50
*Total only reflects the miles I will bike during the trip. It does not include the 500 miles I will bike in preparation for the trip.
- If you donated a __________ dollar bill for every state (14 in total) I visit by bike it would equal:
- One: $14.00
- Five: $70.00
- Ten: $140.00
- Twenty: $280.00
- Fifty: $700.00
- If you donated (a)____________ for every pound of weight (50lbs. minimum*) I’m expected to lose it would equal:
- Quarter: $12.50
- Fifty cents: $25.00
- One dollar bill: $50.00
- Two dollars: $100.00
- Five dollar bill: $ 250.00
This is the expect amount of weight loss prior to the start of my journey.
- If you donated (a) _____________ for every day I’ll spend building homes it would equal:
- Dollar: $13.00
- Two dollars: $26.00
- Five dollars: $65.00
- Ten dollars: $130.00
- Twenty dollars: $260.00
- If you donated (a)_____________ for every day of my trip (72 in total) it would equal:
- Half dollar: $36.00
- Dollar: $72.00
- Two dollars: $144.00
- Five: $360.00
- Ten: $720.00
- If you donated a ______________ for every calorie burnt** during the journey it would equal:
- Quarter cent: $795.09
- Half cent: $1590.18
- Penny : $3180.37
**This is based on my current weight (310lbs) and estimated a rate of 12 miles per hour. 990 calories burnt per hour = 318037.5 in total
No matter what you donate: THANK YOU!
